
A communal Ramadan iftar in the coastal town of Suakin brought together residents, officials and community leaders in a show of solidarity.
The event was organised by the Turkish Red Crescent in cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent and attended by local authorities, including the deputy executive director of the locality.
Cesur Darwishoglu, head of the Turkish Red Crescent mission in Sudan, said about 1,500 people in Suakin locality benefited from the communal meal and related assistance.
He said the initiative forms part of a wider Ramadan relief campaign by the Turkish Red Crescent across Sudan.
Under the programme, the organisation plans to distribute 15,000 Ramadan food baskets and host communal iftar meals expected to reach about 40,000 people in ten states.
Darwishoglu thanked volunteers, local authorities and Sudanese partners for supporting the initiative.
Abdullah Ali Musa, a board member of the Sudanese Red Crescent in Red Sea State, praised the cooperation between the two organisations.
As part of the programme, around 1,500 food baskets were distributed to families in Suakin locality during Ramadan.
