Libyan authorities have detained a Sudanese national on suspicion of practising witchcraft and sorcery in the eastern city of Al Qubbah, according to local media reports on Wednesday.

The arrest was announced by the city’s branch of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, which said the man was taken into custody during security operations.

Officials said legal procedures had been initiated against the suspect but provided no details about the circumstances of his arrest, the allegations against him or any evidence collected during the investigation.

Authorities have not disclosed the man’s identity or confirmed whether he has been formally charged or referred to a court.

The allegations remain unproven, and no findings from the investigation have been made public.

The detention coincided with a separate operation in which immigration authorities deported 63 migrants of various nationalities who had previously been detained in the area.

According to the agency, the deportations followed the completion of required legal procedures. Officials did not identify the migrants’ nationalities or disclose their destinations.

The operations were conducted under directives from the agency’s chief, Major General Mubarak Mustafa Bouharara, and supervised by Colonel Wanis Al-Darsi, head of its Al Qubbah branch.

The agency said it would continue carrying out security operations targeting irregular migration and suspected violations of Libyan law.
