Sudanese militia leader Al-Misbah Abu Zaid Talha has stirred speculation after posting a photograph confirming that he is currently in Ethiopia.
Abu Zaid, a senior commander of the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade, which fights alongside Burhan’s army, shared the image with only a brief prayer and no additional details.
He did not explain the purpose of his trip, how long he plans to stay in Ethiopia, or whether he intends to travel elsewhere.
Burhan’s army have not commented on the visit, and no official explanation has been provided.
The trip recalls an incident in August 2025 when Egyptian authorities detained Abu Zaid for a week. After his release, he described the detention as a routine administrative measure based on inaccurate information.
He was also briefly detained by Saudi authorities in June 2024 while performing the Umrah pilgrimage after large numbers of Sudanese expatriates gathered around him at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
His appearance in Addis Ababa comes as regional countries closely watch developments in Sudan’s ongoing civil war and the shifting balance among armed groups.
The cross-border movements of influential militia figures continue to draw attention as regional actors assess the security and political implications of the conflict.
