Sudanese refugees killed in South Sudan during escape from conflict

According to the UN refugee agency, two individuals who fled the conflict in Sudan met a tragic end in South Sudan after armed assailants halted the vehicle they were traveling in and killed them.

The incident occurred in central Warrap state, where armed youths encircled the vehicle, compelling all passengers to disembark. Subsequently, two men aged 21 and 62 were abducted and killed, the UNHCR reported.

The motive behind the attack remains uncertain. However, the UN agency expressed grave concerns, remarking that this assault challenges the effectiveness of their strategy in transporting Sudanese refugees to a recently established camp in Wedweil, located in northern Bahr el Ghazal state.

Since conflict erupted in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in April, over 438,000 individuals have sought refuge in South Sudan. This violent episode underscores the perilous journey faced by those fleeing conflict zones, raising questions about their safety and security during relocation attempts.
