Sudanese students in UAE face uncertainty before April exams

Sudanese writer and political analyst Osman Mirghani warned that nearly 1,000 Sudanese students in the United Arab Emirates face uncertainty ahead of secondary school certificate exams scheduled for April 13, 2026.

With the exams approaching, students and families remain without confirmation of payment procedures or official seat numbers despite completing online registration requirements.

Mirghani said Sudan’s Ministry of Education released a list of overseas examination centres covering several countries, but the UAE — home to hundreds of registered candidates — was not included.

The omission has caused confusion and anxiety among families who invested significant effort to support students’ studies amid displacement and ongoing turmoil in Sudan.

Parents fear the academic year could be disrupted, leaving months of preparation at risk without clear guidance from authorities.

Mirghani noted the issue does not appear related to regional security concerns, as other Gulf countries remain approved examination locations.

He urged the Ministry of Education to clarify the situation urgently, announce a UAE examination centre, and finalise fee payments and seating arrangements.

He added that swift action is essential to restore confidence and prevent further stress for students preparing for exams critical to their academic and professional futures.
