Sudanese men and women from the central region have urged the international community to intensify efforts to end Sudan’s war, prioritising civilian protection, humanitarian relief and an inclusive political process.
In a statement marking the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the signatories said Sudanese civilians, particularly displaced people and refugees, had paid a heavy price for the conflict.
They called for international pressure to secure a ceasefire and an end to hostilities, alongside safe, sustained routes for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
The statement also urged support for independent investigations into abuses and efforts to counter hate speech, incitement and disinformation.
Any political process must listen to civilian voices and include women, young people, displaced communities, refugees and representatives from Sudan’s different regions and social groups, the signatories said.
They demanded meaningful participation for displaced people and refugees in peace efforts, alongside support for a civilian, democratic Sudan founded on the rule of law, equal citizenship and respect for human rights and public freedoms.
The statement stressed that Sudan’s crisis was political as well as humanitarian, urging the international community to address its root causes rather than limit its response to emergency relief.
The signatories concluded by calling for support for Sudanese people’s right to return to a safe and stable homeland, with peace built on justice, accountability and equal participation.
