Sudan’s cholera cases surge to 6,618, death toll reaches 235

The Sudanese Ministry of Health reported today that the cholera outbreak has resulted in 235 deaths.

The outbreak has now affected 8 out of Sudan’s 18 states, according to the ministry’s statement.

The number of confirmed cholera cases has risen to 6,618, with deaths increasing to 235.

Recent rains and floods, which began in June, have exacerbated the spread of the disease.

On August 12, Sudanese authorities officially declared cholera an epidemic.

The ongoing civil war in Sudan further complicates the situation, as it hampers the effectiveness of the health system.

The combination of conflict and epidemic has significantly worsened living conditions for many Sudanese.
