Sudanese politician Mubarak al-Fadil al-Mahdi said the fifth informal round of the “Nyon Process,” held in Nyon, Switzerland in late October, produced “significant” outcomes in both its recommendations and the breadth of participation.
In a post on X, the Umma Party leader said the meeting gathered a wide spectrum of political and community actors, including the Umma Party, the Democratic Unionist Party (Origin), the Sudanese Congress Party and the Federal Gathering. Prominent figures cited included Tijani Sissi, Nazir Mohamed Sarour Ramli, and Salwa Adam Benya representing the Malik Agar faction.
Also present, according to al-Fadil, were representatives of armed struggle groups and Eastern constituencies led by Amin Daoud, envoys of the movements of Minni Arko Minnawi and Abdullah Yahya, and independents such as former ambassador Nour al-Din Sati, lawyer Nabeel Adeeb, and Sally Zaki.
Participants agreed on the need for an immediate end to the war in Sudan and voiced support for international and regional efforts to secure a ceasefire, with priority on assisting civilians in Darfur—especially in El Fasher.
They also converged on broad parameters for an upcoming Sudanese dialogue, stressing that security and political tracks must move in tandem to reach a comprehensive agreement that opens a transitional phase leading to democratic transformation and an elected civilian government.
The session was part of a Swiss-hosted series of informal meetings intended to prepare the ground for an inclusive Sudanese dialogue to end the conflict between the SAF and the Rapid Support Forces that has raged since April 2023.
