The United Civil Forces Alliance (UCF) in Sudan urged the international community to designate the Islamic Movement as a terrorist organisation, citing threats to national security.
In a statement, the Alliance accused General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan of politicising the SAF and facilitating the ongoing conflict that erupted in April 2023.
The UCF claimed Burhan’s army is ideologically manipulated, asserting that decisions are dictated by the Islamic Movement rather than independent military leadership.
“This infiltration has allowed the army to nurture terrorist groups such as Sudan Shield and Al-Baraa Ibn Malik, while influencing civil institutions,” the statement said.
Al-Burhan, according to the Alliance, seeks to restore the former regime, following directives from Islamic Movement leaders, including the designated terrorist Ali Karti.
Civilians in SAF-controlled areas reportedly endure severe repression under laws restricting movement and limiting access to basic services, the UCF said.
The Alliance highlighted widespread abuses, including murder and other crimes by the army and allied militias, as evidence of terrorist involvement in orchestrated schemes.
The UCF called for an international review of each faction of the Islamic Movement, with thorough documentation to support the designation process.
“This thorough review is essential to distinguish factions, expose evidence, and ensure accountability for crimes committed during Sudan’s ongoing war,” the statement concluded.
