Sudan’s National Umma Party has accused General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and allied jihadist militias of committing horrific crimes against civilians following their entry into the city of Al-Rahad in North Kordofan, as well as in rural areas of Um Rawaba, Al-Rahad, and Al-Dibaybat.
The SAF announced last week that it had seized control of Al-Rahad after taking the village of Al-Samih, west of Um Rawaba, a day earlier.
However, local sources told Al-Taghyeer that civilian abuses followed the SAF advance.
In a statement released Monday, the Umma Party’s General Secretariat accused the SAF and its allied jihadists of executing Sheikh Abdullah Idris, a prominent Ansar religious leader, while he was teaching Quranic students. Several civilians, including women and children, were also reportedly killed under allegations of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) or due to their tribal affiliations.
The party insisted that the victims were unarmed civilians with no ties to the RSF and noted that killings and arbitrary detentions continue in rural areas around Um Rawaba and Al-Rahad.
On Sunday, the party reported that Al-Dibaybat was subjected to an airstrike that left dozens of civilians dead or injured, most of them women, children, and elderly individuals. The attack also caused significant property damage.
The Umma Party strongly condemned the assassinations and aerial bombardments targeting civilians, holding the SAF and its allies fully responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians in Um Rawaba, Al-Rahad, and Al-Dibaybat.
The party called on the international community, regional actors, and human rights organizations to denounce the severe violations against civilians, particularly amid widespread disregard for calls to protect non-combatants and ensure their safety.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that the ongoing war has deliberately targeted innocent civilians based on regional and ethnic divisions, exacerbating polarization, hatred, and violence while prolonging the conflict.
Expressing solidarity with the victims’ families, the Umma Party extended its condolences to the people of Al-Dibaybat and all other affected communities.
