Babiker Faisal, a senior figure in the opposition-aligned Sumoud coalition, said Sunday that the battle for El Fasher should spur efforts to halt Sudan’s war rather than prolong it.
In a Facebook post, Faisal said he expects a continued “back-and-forth” between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces without a decisive military victory by either side. He called the so-called Quad initiative a “golden opportunity” to ease civilian suffering and safeguard national unity.
Faisal accused Islamist networks aligned with the former regime and al-Burhan’s SAF of benefiting from the conflict, saying they have tightened control over executive offices, security bodies, and local and state administrations in army-held areas.
