Sumud blames Burhan for reviving Sudan’s Bashir-era politics

Jafar Hassan Othman, spokesman for the Sumud alliance, said General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s war reflects efforts to restore Bashir-era Islamist influence.

Osman said al-Bashir’s fall seven years ago marked a pivotal moment in protests that ended his 30-year rule in Sudan.

Osman added forces associated with former regime bear responsibility for political, economic, and security crises during that period.

He said former regime responsible for conflicts in Darfur, economic decline, asset sales, and international isolation including terrorism listing status.

Osman said transitional period after December protests saw steps reintegrating Sudan internationally, including terrorism list removal and debt relief process initiation.

He added the process stalled after subsequent coup, which alliance believes returned figures from former regime to power again.

Osman said continuation of war linked to attempts to regain political influence, noting Burhan’s army-controlled areas harbor individuals wanted for justice.

He called for National Congress Party to be designated a terrorist organization and its leaders barred from political life participation.

Othman concluded ending war is prerequisite for new phase based on freedom, peace, and justice principles, coalition said.
