A prominent leader in the “Sumud” alliance led by Abdullah Hamdok has reportedly returned secretly to Khartoum from Cairo, according to sources cited by the Eyewitness platform.
The sources said the leader arrived two days ago after receiving security and legal guarantees against prosecution.
They said his family requested permission for the return because of his deteriorating health and urgent need for medical treatment.
According to the sources, the leader requires open-heart surgery, prompting authorities to approve his return on humanitarian and medical grounds.
The sources also linked his return to substantial financial debts allegedly stemming from what they described as an intelligence-related trap in Addis Ababa.
The leader reportedly returned without attracting public attention and has made no official statement or media appearance.
The sources further claimed he pledged to cooperate with the army and refrain from political or media activity after his return.
However, his identity, the alleged guarantees and other details surrounding the reported return could not be independently verified.
Neither Sudanese authorities nor the leader or any political party has issued an official statement confirming or denying the report.
The reported return comes as Sudan’s political landscape remains deeply divided amid the ongoing war and competing political alliances.
