A drone believed to belong to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) struck a Rapid Support Forces (RSF) base in Nyala on Sunday, killing and wounding an unspecified number of fighters, according to local Sudanese media.
Residents and local sources said the drone fired two missiles in succession at the South Darfur capital, with one hitting a compound used by RSF personnel.
Witnesses described hearing an unusual sound moving from the east towards the city centre before a powerful explosion rocked an area south of Nyala’s main market.
Multiple sources said the strike hit a rest house within the former South Darfur governor’s guesthouse compound, which RSF personnel had been using as a base.
The sources reported deaths and injuries among RSF members but provided no casualty figures. The scale of the losses could not be independently verified by the local outlet.
The attack follows repeated Sudanese army drone strikes on civilian and military sites in Nyala throughout September, according to the report. One earlier strike killed two people and wounded others, including children.
