Sudanese political and civilian groups, including the Democratic Bloc and the Somoud alliance, are expected to meet in Switzerland later this month to discuss efforts to end the country’s ongoing war and advance political dialogue.
The planned meetings, scheduled for late November, are part of international efforts to narrow differences among Sudanese political factions and establish common ground for a negotiated settlement, according to sources cited by Asharq Bloomberg.
Discussions are expected to focus on urgent humanitarian and political issues, including proposals for a ceasefire, improving humanitarian access and developing a shared framework for ending the conflict.
Participants will also explore ways to bridge disagreements between Sudanese political and civilian groups over the structure and objectives of a future political process.
The consultations are expected to build on the Nyon process, a series of informal meetings and workshops facilitated by international organisations in coordination with Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry.
The initiative aims to encourage dialogue among Sudan’s competing political movements and establish a common basis for a broader peace process.
Previous consultations under the Nyon framework brought together representatives of Somoud and the Democratic Bloc, including political groups associated with Sudan’s military-aligned authorities in Port Sudan.
However, significant differences remain over the mechanisms for political dialogue, the composition of participating groups and the outcomes of any future negotiations.
The upcoming meetings are expected to examine possible areas of agreement that could support a cessation of hostilities and pave the way for a comprehensive political settlement.
The consultations come as international efforts to end Sudan’s war continue, with diplomatic initiatives seeking to secure humanitarian access and establish a pathway towards civilian governance.
