TASIS alleges foreign fighters in Sudan war after Tigrayan detainee video

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) said a recently circulated video showing a captured fighter of alleged Tigrayan origin highlights what it described as a broader effort to draw foreign combatants into Sudan’s ongoing war.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, TASIS said the individual was detained during clashes in the Blue Nile region, adding that the case reflects what it called a “dangerous strategy” by its rivals to internationalise the conflict.

The alliance accused forces aligned with General al-Burhan’s army of turning Sudan into “an open arena” for armed groups, foreign fighters, and mercenaries, arguing that such tactics prolong the war at the expense of civilians.

TASIS said the alleged recruitment of non-Sudanese fighters underscores what it described as a wider pattern aimed at sustaining the conflict and consolidating power, warning that the approach risks deepening instability and regional spillover.

Addressing communities in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, the group urged them not to become involved in the Sudanese conflict or be drawn into what it characterised as a war driven by competing political interests.

The alliance also called on the World Council of Churches to take what it described as a moral stance against the exploitation of civilians, particularly Christians, in armed conflicts.

“Terrorism has no religion, no homeland, and no borders,” the statement said, urging regional and international actors to coordinate efforts to prevent the spread of armed groups across borders.

TASIS reiterated its commitment to what it described as resisting attempts by rival forces to regain control of the country, and said it would continue efforts toward “a state founded on peace, justice, and dignity.”
