Armed clashes broke out early Sunday near the city of Dilling in South Kordofan state between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and fighters from the “Tasis” (Founding) Alliance, according to local reports.
The Tasis Alliance, which includes elements of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), said its forces had taken control of the Takma military garrison, located about seven kilometres east of Dilling, following fighting that it claimed forced SAF troops and allied forces to withdraw.
In a statement, the alliance said SAF forces left behind military equipment and vehicles as they retreated from the site. It added that the capture of the garrison had led to the closure of the road linking the towns of Habila and Dilling.
The alliance’s operations command in the Dilling sector said military operations would continue in the area, claiming the objective was to secure territory under what it described as the responsibility of the “Tasis government.” It also said it intended to reopen roads to allow displaced civilians to return to their homes.
The group accused government forces of committing violations that it said had forced residents to flee the area. There was no immediate comment from the SAF on the claims.
South Kordofan has seen repeated clashes amid Sudan’s wider conflict, with control of key roads and garrisons frequently changing hands.
