Sudan’s TASIS-backed Government of Peace has appointed Major General Mohamed Salah al-Din Farah as deputy director-general of police, the latest step in its efforts to establish federal security institutions in territories under its administration.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Taishi issued Decision No. 41 of 2026 authorising the appointment, according to a government decision reported by Sudanese media on Wednesday.

The decision cites Article 73(b) of Sudan’s 2025 Transitional Constitution, adopted by the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), and directs the relevant authorities to implement the appointment.

The new deputy will serve within the federal police structure headed by Major General Bashir Adam Issa, as the administration works to reorganise law enforcement, restore public security and rebuild institutions affected by Sudan’s war.

The appointment follows a series of government measures targeting education, policing and public services in Darfur. In a separate decision, al-Taishi appointed new directors to six universities in Nyala, El-Fasher, Zalingei, El Geneina, El Daein and Al-Salam.

During a recent visit to El-Fasher, the prime minister also inaugurated a police headquarters and outlined plans to improve officer training, equipment, pay and professional standards. He said the force should protect civilians and property and enforce the law without discrimination.

The TASIS administration, based in Nyala, has been building civilian and security bodies in the areas it controls while fighting continues between alliance forces and Sudan’s military, which is aligned with the Port Sudan authorities.

The latest appointment comes amid wider efforts to establish a functioning public administration across Darfur and other territories governed by TASIS.
