The TASIS-linked Peace and Unity Government has announced an immediate ban on certain Sudanese paper currencies, citing efforts to protect the national economy and safeguard security in areas under its control.
In a statement issued on Friday, the government said all banknotes issued from June 2024 onward by what it described as the “so-called Central Bank of Sudan,” and signed under the name “Barai,” are prohibited from circulation, use, possession, transfer or promotion. It added that these notes are considered legally void and do not discharge financial obligations.
The government clarified that only banknotes issued before June 2024 and signed under the name “Jangoul” will remain valid for all financial transactions within its jurisdiction.
Under the decree, any dealings involving the banned currency will be treated as a sovereign economic crime and a direct threat to national security. Violators face immediate confiscation of assets, freezing of related funds, and criminal prosecution.
The decision obliges all banking, financial, regulatory and security bodies operating in TASIS-controlled areas to enforce the ban without delay, warning that failure to do so would constitute a serious legal violation.
The measure was issued under Decree No. (5) of 2026 by Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Taishi and takes effect immediately, applying to all individuals and entities without exception.
