TASIS finalizes oath ceremony in Nyala, setting stage for civilian govt

Preparations for the swearing-in of the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) leadership are complete, with the ceremony for the president and members of the Presidential Council, alongside the prime minister, expected within the next 48 hours — by 30 August 2025, Sudanese media reported on Wednesday.

TASIS previously announced its picks for the Presidential Council and prime minister as part of a plan to establish a civilian authority to the SAF’s rule and to pave the way for a transitional phase.

Sources told Darfur24 that final arrangements followed the recent arrival of a large delegation from outside Sudan to Nyala, the capital of South Darfur. Security agencies have since imposed strict secrecy around the delegation’s whereabouts and tightened measures across the city in anticipation of any incident.

The development comes amid intensifying battles between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and General al-Burhan’s army (SAF), including the siege of El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, and repeated failures of international and regional efforts to secure a political settlement or a durable cease-fire.

What is TASIS?

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) is a Darfur-anchored political-military coalition, built around the RSF and allied civilian blocs, that pitches itself as a “civilian government” to the SAF’s wartime administration. It frames a transition blueprint—rooted in the 2025 Nairobi Civilian Charter—to dismantle the Islamist deep state, devolve power to the regions, and rewire the security sector under civilian oversight.

TASIS markets a Darfur-centric governance map (with Nyala as the administrative seat and Geneina as the economic hub), a technocratic cabinet, and resource-sharing reforms meant to break Khartoum’s monopoly.
