Dr Alaa al-Din Nugud, health minister in Sudan’s Peace Government, said healthcare across TASIS-administered areas of Darfur and Kordofan is run by the government’s own Health Ministry in coordination with local civilian health departments and international humanitarian organisations.
Nugud dismissed claims by the Port Sudan authorities that they continue to supervise medical institutions in those territories, describing the assertion as entirely false. He said the army-aligned administration had provided no meaningful health services to Peace Government areas during the war and had no administrative role in the system currently operating there.
According to Nugud, healthcare is delivered through a hybrid structure combining the Peace Government’s Health Ministry with pre-existing health departments under local civilian administrations. The ministry coordinates directly with organisations including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the UN humanitarian office.
Recent reporting from Nyala also shows local emergency teams responding to suspected cholera cases under the supervision of the Peace Government’s federal Health Ministry, including monitoring contacts, chlorinating water sources and maintaining round-the-clock field surveillance.
Nugud said the only notable medical consignment sent from institutions controlled by the Port Sudan administration was a shipment covering 500 kidney dialysis sessions delivered to Nyala through the Red Cross. He said TASIS health authorities received and distributed the supplies between the Turkish Hospital and Nyala Specialist Hospital, but rejected the claim that the shipment amounted to federal administration of healthcare in the region.
