Sudan’s TASIS government has established a National Council for Combating Terrorism, aiming to address rising security and political threats. The decree, issued by Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, is grounded in the 2025 Transitional Constitution and outlines 14 articles detailing the council’s powers.
The Prime Minister will head the council, joined by judicial, legal, and security officials, and an independent national president will coordinate anti-terror operations. Key provisions create a financial investigations unit, a special court for terrorism crimes, international cooperation mechanisms, and asset-tracking systems to dismantle terrorist networks.
The decree also mandates strengthening security agencies, enacting legislation aligned with regional and international standards, and fostering public awareness against extremist ideology. Officials emphasise cooperation between communities, security forces, and international partners to enhance information sharing and ensure effective implementation of counter-terror measures.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to confronting extremism amid ongoing political instability and social unrest in Sudan.
