TASIS moves to finalise government as Sudan war reshapes power

The Sudanese Founding Alliance, known as “Tasis”, is moving to finalise the structures of its government early next year, sources said.

The alliance formed the rival administration last July amid Sudan’s war, shifting power away from Khartoum.

Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo was named head of the Presidential Council, with SPLM-North leader Abdel Aziz al-Hilu as his deputy, while Mohamed al-Ta’aishi was appointed prime minister.

Sources said that consultations are under way to allocate remaining ministries before a formal announcement, with Nyala designated as the administrative capital.

The alliance plans to announce federal ministries, state governorships and governing bodies from the city, with finance likely going to the Popular Movement and defence to the Rapid Support Forces.

Other sources said authority over appointing state governors has been transferred from the prime minister to regional governors.
