The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has accused Sudan’s military of killing 19 civilians and wounding 21 others in a drone strike on a restaurant in El Daein, the capital of East Darfur, amid renewed aerial attacks on the city.
The alliance said Monday’s attack struck a restaurant north of the city’s main market, an area frequented by civilians.
TASIS spokesperson Ahmed Tugud Lisan blamed forces loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan for the bombardment, condemning the alleged targeting of civilians and calling for accountability.
The alliance’s reported casualty figures could not be independently verified.
In a separate account, local Sudanese media reported that five people were killed and 20 others wounded in drone strikes targeting military sites in El Daein on Monday.
Medical sources cited by Darfur24 said some civilians were among the casualties and that several injured people were in serious condition.
Residents reported hearing successive explosions in eastern and southeastern parts of the city, including near Al-Jallabi prison, which holds hundreds of detainees.
Witnesses also described a drone repeatedly circling overhead before launching its attack.
According to the local report, RSF personnel subsequently sealed off the area surrounding their headquarters in central El Daein, which was among the reported targets.
The differing casualty figures and descriptions of the targeted locations could not immediately be reconciled. It remains unclear whether the reports describe separate strikes during the same operation.
Sudanese army-aligned media described Monday’s bombardment as an operation against RSF positions and military facilities.
El Daein, which remains under RSF control, has repeatedly been subjected to aerial bombardment during Sudan’s civil war.
