TASIS sets tone with UN appointment, taps Qoni Sharif as envoy

Mohamed Hassan Othman al-Ta’aishi, Prime Minister of the Sudan Founding Government (Tasis), issued his first decree on Monday appointing Qoni Mustafa Abu Bakr Sharif as Sudan’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

The announcement said the decision is grounded in the 2025 Transitional Constitution and instructs the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to put it into effect.

Al-Ta’aishi was sworn in on Sunday in Nyala, a day after the chair, deputy chair, and members of the Presidential Council—among them eight regional governors—took their oaths under what has been dubbed the Peace Government.

Unveiling early priorities on Monday, al-Ta’aishi said the executive will focus on public security and safeguarding the dignity of all Sudanese. He added that draft legislation is being prepared to reform policing, security, and the public prosecution service, alongside a new counter-terrorism law.

The Tasis alliance emerged after the Rapid Support Forces, the SPLM-North, the Sudan Liberation Movement–Transitional Council, the Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces, and allied political and community actors signed a political charter and agreed a transitional constitution that frames the new governing arrangements.
