TASIS lines up picks for civilian government, sources say

The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) has agreed on nominees for its long-planned civilian government and could announce the line-up within hours, two sources familiar with the talks told Darfur24.

Under the draft arrangement, TASIS will form a 15-member Sovereignty Council: eight ex officio representatives of Sudan’s regions and seven seats for political forces, alongside a prime minister and an executive cabinet.

After weeks of consultations, coalition members settled on a power-sharing formula granting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) 47% of positions and the SPLM-North 33%, with the remainder divided among other partners, the sources said.

Portfolios and picks (per the sources):

  • Sovereignty/Presidential Council:
    • Chair: RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti)
    • Deputy: Abdel Aziz Adam al-Hilu (SPLM-N)
    • Members include Tahir Hajar of the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance and others.
  • Prime Minister: Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’aishi
  • Governors:
    • Darfur — Al-Hadi Idris (Sudan Liberation Movement–Transitional Council)
    • Eastern Region — Mabrouk Salim (Free Lions Party)
    • Khartoum State — Faris al-Nour (civil society activist)
  • Key ministries:
    • RSF nominees: Defence, Oil and Minerals, among others
    • SPLM-N nominees: Foreign Affairs, Finance, Education, Agriculture, Federal Government
    • Interior: Suleiman Sandal (Justice and Equality Movement)
    • Information: Ibrahim al-Mirghani (Democratic Unionist Party)
    • Legislative Council presidency: National Umma Party (Fadlallah Burma Nasser)

TASIS — which brings together the RSF, SPLM-N, the SLM-Transitional Council, the Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance and allied political and civic groups — was constituted after signatories endorsed a political charter and a transitional constitution earlier this month.

Next steps: The announcement is expected once final sign-offs are completed among coalition partners, the sources said.
