Tibaq says Burhan unfit to propose national reconciliation

The political rift between SAF and the Rapid Support Forces continues to widen, as exchanges between the two sides intensify amid growing controversy over proposed political settlements.

In Nyala on Friday, Al Basha Tibaq, adviser to the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, strongly criticised SAF leader Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s call for national reconciliation, describing it as a sign of political confusion and retreat.

Tibaq’s remarks followed Burhan’s Independence Day speech, in which he claimed the door remained open for political forces to join what he described as an inclusive national path aimed at building a state based on citizenship.

In a post on X, Tibaq said Burhan lacks the political and moral legitimacy to present any national initiative, holding him directly responsible for the outbreak of the war through his alliance with Islamist leadership circles embedded within SAF.

He accused Burhan of deliberately sabotaging regional and international efforts to establish a three month humanitarian truce, which was intended to pave the way for a ceasefire and negotiations addressing the root causes of the conflict.

Tibaq added that Burhan’s rhetoric on reconciliation represents an attempt to evade responsibility and obscure realities on the ground, arguing that calls for dialogue cannot be credible while SAF continues its military approach and alignment with Islamist forces.
