Torrential rains cause havoc in Sudan, 32 dead

Torrential rains and subsequent floods have claimed the lives of 32 people and injured 107 others across seven Sudanese states since June, the country’s Ministry of Health announced on Monday.

According to Dr. Muhammed Mahmud, Director of the Health Emergency Department, seven out of Sudan’s total 18 states have been affected by the severe weather conditions.

The flooding has caused substantial damage to homes, with 5,575 partially or destroyed.

Sudan is no stranger to the devastating impact of floods, particularly during the rainy season between July and October.

Historical data reveals that over 100 people typically lose their lives annually due to these natural disasters, with countless homes, businesses, and agricultural lands suffering damage.

As the rainy season progresses, concerns are growing about the potential for further casualties and widespread destruction.

The government and humanitarian organizations are closely monitoring the situation and working to assist those affected.
