Turkey delivers food aid to South Sudan orphanage

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has delivered life-saving food aid to 250 children at an orphanage in Juba, South Sudan’s capital.

The comprehensive aid package includes one ton each of sugar, maize flour, AZAM flour, rice, lentils, and beans, along with 500 liters of cooking oil.

During a heartfelt handover ceremony, Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan Metin Ergin reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to assisting vulnerable communities in the region.

“As the Turkish government, we humbly contribute to support our brothers and sisters in South Sudan during these trying times,” said Ergin.

The Sheikh Dafallah Abbas Foundation, which manages the orphanage, expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance amid ongoing challenges.

Sheikh Juma Saeed Ali, the foundation’s director, highlighted the dire circumstances faced by the children, many of whom are orphans or come from impoverished families.

“We struggle daily to meet the children’s basic needs, and this support from TIKA offers us renewed hope and strength,” said Ali.

Established in 1980, the center has been a beacon of hope for South Sudan’s vulnerable, despite limited external support.

Ali called on more organizations and individuals to follow TIKA’s example in helping sustain the center’s critical mission.

“Without goodwill from organizations like TIKA, it’s nearly impossible to provide the necessary care and education these children deserve,” he added.
