UAE: Brotherhood-linked groups won’t shape Sudan’s future

The United Arab Emirates has welcomed ongoing efforts by US leaders to help end the conflict in Sudan, stressing that close cooperation with Washington, alongside regional and international partners, remains central to Abu Dhabi’s approach to securing peace and stability for the country.

Statements by Gargash

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said that what he described as false claims and misleading information circulating about the UAE’s role in Sudan would not deter the country from working with partners to halt the war and ease the suffering of the Sudanese people. He noted that the UAE views the crisis through a humanitarian and regional stability lens, rather than narrow political calculations, with the ultimate goal of supporting a path towards peace and ending the cycle of violence.

US position

US President Donald Trump stated last Wednesday that he would work to end the war in Sudan following a direct request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. His comments reflect growing American engagement in the Sudanese crisis and come amid wider international efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

Condemnation of violations

Gargash strongly condemned what he described as atrocities and violations committed by the SAF, saying the continued violence threatens Sudan’s unity and the security of neighbouring states. He added that ending these violations is essential to creating conditions suitable for political dialogue.

He also stressed that violent extremist groups with links to the Muslim Brotherhood cannot be allowed to shape Sudan’s future. Gargash said any sustainable political settlement must be grounded in state institutions and the rule of law, free from the influence of militias and extremist organisations. Building a stable state, he added, requires removing these groups from the political landscape to ensure long term stability.
