UAE thwarts illegal ammunition transfer to Sudan’s SAF

UAE authorities reported on Wednesday that they had successfully intercepted an illegal attempt to transfer ammunition to Sudanese General al-Burhan’s army (SAF).

State media outlet WAM revealed that security forces uncovered approximately five million rounds of ammunition on a private plane at an undisclosed airport and arrested several individuals involved in the operation.

The incident has not yet elicited a response from SAF, who have previously accused the UAE of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), their adversaries in the ongoing civil war. The UAE has consistently denied these allegations.

According to WAM, the plot was linked to a group that included Sudan’s former intelligence chief, Salah Gosh. The ammunition, which was identified as 7.62 x 54 mm Goryunov-type rounds, was discovered during an inspection of the private aircraft.

While the UAE has denied the accusations, Sudan has filed a case at the International Court of Justice, accusing the UAE of supplying weapons to the RSF.
