UAE welcomes US move to label Sudan Muslim Brotherhood terrorist

The United Arab Emirates on Monday welcomed Washington’s decision to designate Sudan’s Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation, signalling alignment with shifting United States policy.

In a statement posted on X, the Emirati foreign ministry praised the administration of US President Donald Trump for formally announcing the designation.

Officials in Abu Dhabi framed the move as an important step toward confronting extremism and reinforcing regional stability amid Sudan’s prolonged and devastating conflict.

The announcement arrives as Sudan remains gripped by war between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces since fighting erupted in April 2023.

Abu Dhabi insists it supports diplomatic solutions and humanitarian relief efforts, describing claims of military involvement as unfounded and politically motivated accusations.

Meanwhile, Burhan’s army has also confronted allegations of maintaining ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, charges military leaders strongly deny amid intensifying international scrutiny.

The competing accusations reflect the complex web of alliances and narratives shaping Sudan’s war, where information battles unfold alongside violence on the ground.

As diplomatic tensions ripple across the region, the US designation adds another layer to an already volatile conflict defined by mistrust, rivalries, and uncertain prospects for peace.
