British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has welcomed international efforts to end Sudan’s war, urging that only Sudanese citizens can determine the country’s political future.
Cooper, in a statement shared on X, praised the role of the “Quad” – the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt – in pushing for a resolution to the nearly 18-month conflict between General al-Burhan’s Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
“The Sudanese people have endured unimaginable suffering for too long,” she wrote, adding that Britain supported “necessary steps to end the brutal conflict and enable a peaceful and inclusive transition.”
