Mubarak Al-Fadil, head of Sudan’s Umma Party, accused General Abdel Fattah al Burhan and his allies of prolonging a devastating war with the rival Rapid Support Forces.
He said the generals continued fighting despite the siege of key cities and the mounting toll of dead, wounded and missing soldiers.
In a post on his X account, Al-Fadil criticised SAF’s failure for more than two years to break the blockade of Babnusa and El-Fashir.
He questioned why the leadership refused to halt the conflict, describing the stance as a stubborn pursuit of war over national interest.
Al-Fadil said around fifty thousand soldiers were killed, injured, captured or unaccounted for in battles around El-Fashir and Babnusa.
He argued that such losses amounted to nearly one fifth of SAF’s total strength, exposing the force’s deepening vulnerability.
He added that commanders neither protected their soldiers nor searched for the missing, worsening what he called a growing humanitarian tragedy.
His comments come as Sudan’s war grinds into its second year, leaving shattered cities and exhausted communities trapped between relentless armed rivals.
