UN appeals for $20 million to expedite critical aid delivery to Sudan

The United Nations (UN) has announced an additional $20 million in aid to address growing needs in Sudan.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths reported that the aid will be allocated from the UN’s Central Emergency Fund (CERF).

Noting the rapid displacement of civilians, Griffiths stated that this figure has reached 4.5 million.

Griffiths said that with the new assistance, the total amount transferred from CERF for Sudan has reached 60 million dollars.

Underlining that the need for humanitarian assistance in Sudan has increased significantly, Griffiths said: “However, funding is still very low. Only 26 percent of the Humanitarian Plan for Sudan is funded.”
