UN human rights council orders urgent probe into Sudan

The UN Human Rights Council ordered urgent investigations into alleged atrocities in Sudan’s El-Fasher, aiming to identify perpetrators for justice.

The resolution directs the UN’s independent fact-finding mission on Sudan to probe violations and gather evidence for potential accountability measures.

The decision concluded a special session addressing El-Fasher, amid warnings of crimes against humanity and a growing risk of genocide.

Since April 2023, fighting between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces has killed tens of thousands and displaced nearly 12 million.
