UN Security Council sanctions four RSF commanders

The UN Security Council committee on Sudan has added four senior Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commanders to its sanctions list under Resolution 1591 (2005), imposing travel bans and asset freezes.

Those designated include RSF deputy commander Abdel Rahim Dagalo, North Darfur commander Jadu Hamdan, Al-Fateh Abdallah (“Abu Lulu”), and Tijani Ibrahim (“Al-Zeer Salem”).

The move follows a proposal submitted on February 17 by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.

Sudan’s deputy UN envoy Ammar Mahmoud said the listings were linked to actions threatening Sudan’s security and stability, as well as alleged serious human rights violations and crimes against civilians.

The EU, UK, and US had previously imposed separate sanctions on several of the same commanders over alleged abuses in El Fasher.

The sanctions regime, established under Resolution 1591, includes asset freezes, travel bans, and an arms embargo on Darfur-related entities.
