The UN Security Council will hold an open briefing on Sudan’s war on Monday, requested by Denmark.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen is set to chair, with briefings from political affairs chief Rosemary DiCarlo and humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher.
Discussions are expected to focus on escalating fighting in Blue Nile State, particularly around Kurmuk near the Ethiopian border.
Diplomats are likely to condemn the violence, demand an immediate ceasefire, and back African Union-led mediation efforts.
Members are also expected to raise enforcement of Resolution 1591 sanctions and calls to widen the Darfur arms embargo nationwide.
Separately, the Council is reviewing a Danish-drafted resolution on protecting medical missions in conflict zones.
The session comes as Sudan’s war, now in its third year, continues driving mass displacement and famine risk.
