The UN on Monday called on all parties in Sudan to guarantee safe, unhindered humanitarian access as the conflict worsens. Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said displaced families urgently need shelter, food, health services, and sanitation, while funding shortfalls leave critical gaps.
The fighting between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, ongoing since April 2023, has killed thousands and displaced at least 12 million. UN officials warn that without secured access and additional donor support, humanitarian conditions will continue to deteriorate across the country. Aid workers report widespread shortages of essentials, pushing communities toward a humanitarian catastrophe.
