UN will meet urgently to tackle Sudan crisis

The U.N. Human Rights Council will convene an emergency session on Nov. 14 to address the situation in Sudan. The Rapid Support Forces seized el-Fashir, General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s the last stronghold in Darfur, gaining control over more than a quarter of the region.

RSF has agreed to a proposed humanitarian ceasefire, officials said on Thursday, offering a fragile pause amid the country’s brutal civil conflict.

A motion calling for the emergency session was backed by over 50 states, including Britain, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Norway, according to U.N. documents.

The upcoming council session aims to coordinate international response, examine rights violations, and discuss mechanisms to protect civilians caught in ongoing violence.

Diplomats have warned that delays in action could further imperil vulnerable populations, emphasizing the urgency of a coherent, multinational approach to the crisis.
