UNICEF warns Sudanese children face grave risks in El Obeid

UNICEF has warned of serious and direct risks facing children in El Obeid, in Sudan’s North Kordofan region, as fighting continues.

Hanan Suleiman told the UN Security Council that children are bearing the heaviest burden of the war.

She said around 5,700 grave violations against children have been documented so far.

She also reported that about eight million children are currently out of school.

In addition, 3.5 million refugee children and 6.5 million internally displaced people are affected across the region.

UNICEF says the humanitarian situation is growing more complex as military operations continue, further increasing the risks for children in conflict zones.
