US diplomat: SAF deliberately targeted Al-Daein hospital

A US diplomat has said the strike on Al-Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur was a deliberate and premeditated attack, placing responsibility on General al-Burhan’s army (SAF).

In a post on X, Cameron Hudson said the attack “was not an arbitrary act,” adding that he had “no doubt” the SAF carried it out. He said available assessments point to the intentional targeting of the health facility.

Hudson added that the incident appears to fit a broader pattern of attacks on civilian infrastructure amid Sudan’s ongoing conflict, which has drawn increasing international scrutiny over alleged violations.

The remarks come as human rights groups and international organizations intensify calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the strike, stressing the need to protect medical facilities and personnel under international humanitarian law and to hold those responsible accountable.
