US move to label Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist wins Sudanese praise

A senior member of the Sumood coalition, Khalid Omar Yousif, welcomed the decision by the US Congress Foreign Affairs Committee to classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation, calling it “a historic step in the right direction” and saying the region has long paid the price for what he described as the group’s extremism.

In a post on Facebook, Yousif said Sudan was among the countries most harmed by the Brotherhood’s rule, noting that the country “suffered under its grip for thirty years” and that the movement is now, according to him, directly involved in a criminal war that has produced “the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe.”

Yousif argued that the US decision would help cut off ideological and financial channels that fuel extremism and violence, saying the region has endured decades of instability linked to such groups.

He also stressed the importance of sustained international pressure to support stability in Sudan and to hold organisations involved in the conflict accountable.
