US prepares international donor conference to support Sudan

A US presidential adviser has said Washington is preparing to host an international donor conference on Sudan, expected to take place in the coming weeks, according to media.

Masad Boulos, adviser to US President Donald Trump on African and Arab affairs, said the initiative aims to mobilise international support for Sudan as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate.

He explained that current efforts include the establishment of a dedicated fund to pool financial resources and channel them directly towards humanitarian needs inside Sudan.

Boulos added that the US is holding consultations with members of the international Quartet, along with other partners, to closely monitor developments linked to the Sudan crisis.

He noted that President Trump views the humanitarian situation in Sudan as extremely serious and believes urgent action is needed to address its consequences.

In a related development, Boulos held meetings in Abu Dhabi with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and several senior officials, focusing on efforts to support peace in Sudan.

In a statement posted on social media, Boulos said the meetings included Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan. He stressed that discussions highlighted the need to reach and implement a humanitarian truce as soon as possible.

Boulos reaffirmed the Trump administration’s commitment to supporting peace efforts across the region.
