US sanctions network recruiting Colombians for Sudan war

The United States imposed new sanctions on Tuesday against a network accused of recruiting Colombians to fight in Sudan’s civil war.

Washington’s action comes as clashes intensify between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, whose struggle for power has raged since 2023.

Those sanctioned include retired Colombian officer Alvaro Andres Quijano Becerra, who allegedly oversaw the recruitment of former Colombian troops for Sudan.
