The United States on Wednesday urged Sudan’s warring factions to immediately implement a humanitarian truce.
Senior US advisor Massad Boulos warned that civilian casualties have reached catastrophic levels, calling for swift action without political or military posturing.
Millions of Sudanese civilians currently lack access to food, water, and medical care, he said, highlighting the urgent humanitarian crisis.
Boulos stressed that both General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces must honour commitments and halt hostilities immediately.
He added that the truce should ensure safe, unimpeded humanitarian access and pave the way for dialogue and lasting peace.
The UN has echoed concerns, warning that conditions for civilians continue to deteriorate as aid groups face restricted access.
The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions across Sudan, according to the WHO.
