Over 700 trucks loaded with 17,500 tons of food are en route to famine-stricken areas in Sudan following government clearance, the World Food Programme (WFP) announced Tuesday. The aid will provide food for 1.5 million people for a month.
Sudan’s ongoing conflict between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has fueled widespread hunger. Both sides have been accused of obstructing aid deliveries.
The WFP is targeting 14 famine-affected areas, including Darfur’s Zamzam camp, where desperate residents had resorted to eating animal feed.
The first food shipment arrived Friday, with another convoy just 300 km away, WFP spokesperson Leni Kinzli said.
