WHO condemns attacks on Sudan hospitals

The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed deep concern over the ongoing attacks on hospitals in Sudan amid the ongoing conflict.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared the alarming news, urging the protection of health facilities in the war-torn country.

“WHO is concerned about the ongoing attacks on hospitals and their vicinities in Sudan, where access to healthcare is already very limited,” Ghebreyesus stated.

He highlighted a recent attack near En-Nev Hospital, where seven people were killed and 37 injured.

The director-general emphasized the immense suffering of the Sudanese people, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the safeguarding of medical facilities. “Peace is the best medicine,” he added.

Sudan has been embroiled in conflict since April 2023, with clashes between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces over military reform.

Despite multiple efforts to end the war, peace remains elusive.

The United Nations reports that more than 20,000 people have died, and millions are displaced, creating the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis.

Over 3 million people have fled the country, while nearly 9 million are internally displaced. More than 25 million people require urgent humanitarian aid.
