WHO delivers 175 tons of health supplies to crisis-hit Sudan

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus announced that 5 trucks carrying 175 tons of health supplies have reached the conflict-ridden Darfur region in western Sudan, delivered in collaboration with partners.

Ghebreyesus shared the update on X, highlighting the delivery of essential health supplies to Sudan, where civil war continues.

He emphasized the critical role these resources play in addressing the ongoing crisis.

The supplies, sent via the Adre and Tine border gates, reached Darfur despite the Adre Border Gate on the Chad-Sudan border being closed since February.

The delivery marks a significant step in aiding the war-torn region.

Ghebreyesus stressed that these supplies, including medicines, diagnostic tools, and nutritional items, will help humanitarian partners address health emergencies, treat diseases like malaria, and combat malnutrition among vulnerable children.

Despite this progress, Ghebreyesus underscored that much more aid is needed to meet the urgent needs caused by conflict and instability in Sudan.

He called for peace as the ultimate solution to the crisis affecting millions.
