On Thursday, the WHO chief reported that ongoing conflict in Sudan has left two-thirds of its people unable to access medical care.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in his statement on X highlighted that the violence prevents many Sudanese from visiting hospitals or seeing doctors.
Additionally, thousands are now facing severe famine conditions, he noted.
He supported the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ call for the Security Council to help find a lasting and peaceful resolution to Sudan’s crisis.
The conflict, which started in April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of 18,800 individuals and displaced nearly 10 million people, according to UN reports.
This dire situation underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address both the humanitarian and medical crises unfolding in Sudan.
